Elon Musk says Tesla will launch robotaxis on August 8 declare X in a few hours Reuters A report has been published claiming that the automaker is abandoning plans to produce low-cost electric vehicles. Reuters It also said that Musk’s instructions were to “go all out” to develop robotaxis based on the company’s small vehicle platform. Tesla has been promising a more affordable electric car for years, with prices expected to start at $25,000, and Musk said as recently as January this year that he was optimistic the model would be available in the second half of 2025. Tweet “Reuters lied (again).”
He didn’t clarify which part of the report was a lie, but considering he confirmed Tesla was launching a robotaxi, it’s likely he meant the news organization’s claim that the company stopped making cheaper electric cars. Currently, Tesla’s cheapest model is the Model 3, but it starts at $39,000. It will be interesting to see how the company will make robotaxis work with its camera-only system — a few years ago it dropped radar and other sensors from its driver-assistance technology that are widely used by robotaxis companies like Waymo these sensors.
Tesla Robotaxi will be unveiled on August 8
