HP has launched the Omen Transcend 32 OLED gaming monitor with high-end specs and new features that also make it a pretty good productivity monitor. It’s part of the company’s newly launched Omen series at CES 2024, which includes the world’s lightest gaming laptops.
Even before considering other new features, the Omen Transcend 32 looks like an impressive gaming monitor. It uses LG’s latest QD-OLED technology, equipped with a 31.5-inch screen, 4K resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and a response time of 0.3 milliseconds. This is the company’s first Dolby Vision-certified Omen display, offering 99% DCI-P3 coverage and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, with peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits.
In terms of gaming, it also supports AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro and may also be compatible with G-Sync.You can enhance the atmosphere with aRGB backlighting, which uses Omen’s "storm" Technology cools the OLED panel during long gaming sessions. For audio, it uses HP’s HyperX technology, which connects to the Omen’s Game Center to allow customization of EQ and other settings.
If you want to combine gaming with productivity or content creation, it has some really interesting extras. It comes with a KVM switchable input, allowing you to run two devices (including keyboard and mouse) from the same monitor without having to change cables or use a switching box. Best of all, picture-in-picture mode shows what’s happening on two devices simultaneously.
According to HP, the KVM feature also allows for simultaneous control of multiple computers and even the ability to drag and drop files across devices. All of these let you play a game while working on a spreadsheet or participating in a Zoom meeting—a great feature for users, but probably not for their bosses.
Another great feature is USB-C with DisplayPort alt mode and 140 watts of power delivery, which is enough for even a powerful gaming laptop. Other features include dual HDMI 2.1 ports, the latest DisplayPort 2.1, two USB-C 3.2 ports (each delivering 15 watts), and a pair of USB-A 3.2 ports. Finally, it comes with a three-year warranty to protect against potential screen burn-in, just like Alienware’s latest QD-OLED displays.
The Omen Transcend looks like an ideal monitor, but like many devices launched at CES 2024, it won’t be available for a while. It’s set to go on sale sometime in the middle of next year, with pricing to be announced later.
