X is using Grok to publish summaries of AI-generated news and other hot topics on the platform. According to reports, this feature is currently only open to premium subscribers and is called “Stories on X” Engineering account from the company.
According to X, Grok relies on users’ posts to generate snippets of text. Some seem more focused on news, while others are summaries of conversations happening on the platform itself.one user A screenshot showing a story about Apple’s earnings report and aid to Ukraine, along with a screenshot of “Musk, experts debate national debt,” a “candid online discussion” between Musk and other “well-known figures” on X “Abstract.
If this sounds familiar, it’s also very similar to Twitter’s Moments, Twitter’s long-standing feature for curating canonical tweets about important news and cultural moments on the platform. The feature was overseen by a team of human staff but has been removed
As with other generative AI tools, Grok’s abstract comes with a disclaimer. “This story is a summary of posts on X and may evolve over time,” it said. “Grok can make mistakes and verify its output.” Of course, Grok doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to accurately interpreting current events. It previously suggested NBA player Klay Thompson went on a “spree of vandalism” because it couldn’t understand what “throwing bricks” meant in a basketball game.
