Sony’s big press conference at CES 2024 didn’t reveal much about the first half, other than to recap the company’s entertainment successes in TV, movies, and music. Then, out of the blue, it launched a yet-to-be-named mixed reality headset with an almost anime-like controller.

While there are some similarities in design, this is not a VR headset like the PSVR. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 technology, the headset was announced at the opening of CES. This means it is a standalone device and does not require a computer. Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said that the 4K OLED microdisplay on the headset will provide “clear viewing experience” and “intuitive interaction with 3D design.”

The headset has a pair of controls. One is described as a “ring controller” for manipulating objects, and the other is described as a “pointing controller” for pointing. Sony hopes creators can use them to create 3D models on the fly.

This all seems more like an interpretation of Microsoft HoloLens. We haven’t seen the headphones in person yet, though. Hopefully we’ll get more details from Sony’s booth in Las Vegas.

Oh, and the company also drove the upcoming Afeela EV on stage. It was CES. For all the latest CES news, find all our stories.

Yesterday, Intel showed off its full range of products, which includes powerful HX series chips like the 24-core i9-14900HX, as well as new mainstream desktop CPUs. Of course, that means a lot of new laptops. We’ve got impressions and reports on the new , , , and computers, but I’ll point you to the weirdest PC we’ve seen so far: As you can see in the picture, the bottom is a Windows laptop with a 14-inch Android display tablet. You can use the tablet as a standalone Android device, a wireless display in a laptop dock, or a Wacom-like drawing display.

Samsung showed off a robot called Ballie that has a built-in projector.Interestingly, however, it is reported that Washington postSamsung said the robot ball will be commercially available within the year.

We first saw an early version of Ballie in 2020, where it was touted as a home assistant and potential fitness assistant, with complex skills like opening smart curtains and turning on the TV. But four years later, things are a little different. Now it’s “the size of a bowling ball” and features a spatial LiDAR sensor and a 1080p projector. The latter has two lenses that allow the robot to display movies, video calls and “greetings” on surrounding surfaces.

Mercedes-AMG and will.i.am try to turn cars into DJs at CES 2024

    Oh no. He will be.

Mercedes-AMG and will.i.am are collaborating on a new car audio system called MBUX SOUND DRIVE (in all caps, obviously). It pulls data from the car’s sensors, which control a specially deconstructed music archive. Start the car and you’ll hear a music track looping in the background; accelerate to low speeds and it’ll add some bass reverb to the song. Best of all, moving the steering wheel will give you additional effects or chorus loops. The main music and lyrics only start when you turn on the car on a clear highway. Daniel Cooper put it to the test in Las Vegas.

This Audio Mask Left Our Reviews Editor Speechless

    It makes public phones private.

Skyted’s Silent Mask launches its Kickstarter campaign today at CES 2024. This is a noise-canceling wearable device that allows you to talk about confidential information freely anywhere without worrying about others around you hearing it. It has exceeded the $8,800 target multiple times. While noise-canceling technology has its limitations, the idea is that it will provide a level of privacy for voice calls in busy or quiet public spaces.
