CES 2024 in Las Vegas showcased a wide variety of technology, from laptops to, well, laptops. Like an endless supply of laptops. In fact, there are so many laptops that we had a hard time choosing between them for our best CES winners.
These aren’t just laptops with slightly improved specs. This year’s theme is of course artificial intelligence, and many computers use dedicated artificial intelligence chips. OLED displays with fast refresh rates were also found throughout the showroom, and of course there were some indescribably unique designs. We’ve taken a closer look at them all and compiled a list of the best laptops at CES.
ASUS Zenbook Dual Core
The dream of a dual-screen laptop isn’t dead yet! ASUS Zenbook Duo features dual-screen displays and a detachable Bluetooth keyboard. In other words, you can use it in traditional clamshell mode with a keyboard in front of one of the displays, or you can stack the screens together for balance. This is great for those who want the convenience of a laptop but want more screen real estate.
The aesthetics of the Duo are spot on, including high-end hardware like an Intel Core Ultra chip and a gorgeous OLED screen. Considering the technology, the price of this laptop is also quite reasonable as the starting price of this laptop is $1,500.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16
Asus strikes again. ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 feature a striking aluminum chassis and plenty of power under the hood. Thanks to AMD Ryzen 8000 series processors and optional high-end NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU, these laptops can run almost any AAA game on the market.
We call it a “mature” and “sophisticated” gaming laptop, because that’s what it is.It’s very stylish and would feel right at home in the office and A basement turned into a gaming paradise. It’s also lighter and more portable than previous generations. Each model features a simple LED slash on the front that can be programmed to glow in gray or white instead of the rainbow of colors found on most gaming laptops. These are not priced yet.
HP Omen Beyond 14
There’s a new record breaker in town. The HP Open Transcend 14 weighs only 3.5 pounds. Or even cooler? HP seems to have reached this milestone without taking too many shortcuts. Although the size and weight are closer to an ultraportable than a regular gaming laptop, you still get support for 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra 7 or Ultra 9 processors, up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM, 2TB of storage, and an RTX 4070 GPU . This thing will have no trouble playing modern games.
Despite its small size, you still get two USB-A and two USB-C ports (one of which supports Thunderbolt 4) as well as a full-size HDMI 2.1 jack on the back. You can also choose to upgrade to a Wi-Fi 7 card with Bluetooth 5.4. The laptop will start at $1,600 and will be available later this year.
Dell’s new XPS series
Dell’s form factors are similar to the new XPS 13, 14 and 16, and there’s no longer a Plus series. These laptops come with a glass wristband that hides an invisible tactile trackpad. There are also touch function buttons and large keycaps above the keyboard for comfortable typing.
The XPS series includes Intel’s Core Ultra chips, which feature an NPU for AI tasks. Connection ports are well-stocked, with the XPS 14 and 16 boasting a headphone jack, three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C slots, and a microSD card reader. The minimalist design here is gorgeous, and these laptops almost made our best of CES list, but not quite. However, once these products become available, they may end up on our list just like the XPS 13 Plus.
Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5
We promise unique and trendy designs and this is one of them. It’s a kind of Frankenstein’s monster whose design is basically two gadgets smashed together. This is by no means your typical 2-in-1 device. At first glance, the ThinkBook Plus looks like a regular clamshell tablet, but the display immediately lifts up, transforming it into a 14-inch tablet.
No big deal, right? This is where things get interesting. When removed, both components remain fully functional. So you can use the tablet as a standalone Android device, a wireless display in a laptop dock, or a Wacom-like ink display through Lenovo’s Freestyle app. At the same time, you can also use the deck as a mini desktop by plugging in an external screen. Now this is some modular thinking. However, starting at $2,000, this product is quite expensive.
