Motorola has launched the 2024 Moto G Play, and the $150 price tag is still its killer feature. While you could accuse Motorola of making too many cheap phones that are nearly identical, at least this year’s models add some new features. These include a fast-focusing 50-megapixel rear camera, a 6nm Snapdragon 680 processor, and double the storage space of its predecessor.
The 2024 Moto G Play is still equipped with a 6.5-inch LCD with a medium resolution of 720p (1600 x 720). (However, its variable 90Hz refresh rate, which is impressive at this price point, also returns from last year’s model.) The phone runs Android 13 out of the box and has 64GB of built-in storage, with support for up to 1TB. microSD.
The phone’s rear camera features a 50-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture, Quad Pixel technology, HDR, and phase detection autofocus. It shoots 1080p (or 720p) video at 30fps. On the front is an 8MP sensor.
The new Moto G Play has a 5000mAh battery (expected to be “up to 46 hours”) and supports 15W fast charging. This year’s model adds Dolby Atmos support to its speakers, and it’s High-Resolution Audio certified when used with compatible wired headphones. This phone is rated IP52 for dust and water resistance.
The Moto G Play will be available in the US on February 8th for $150. Motorola said the product will be unlocked on its website, Amazon and Best Buy. (Locked versions will be sold at various wireless carriers.) Meanwhile, Canadian users can purchase it in advance from “select carriers and national retailers” starting on January 26.
