Ahead of CES 2024, Tesla and Samsung announced today that they are collaborating to develop energy management for smart homes. Users of Samsung’s SmartThings platform will be able to connect to Tesla products such as the Powerwall home battery so you can track information such as energy production and usage.
When connected to the Powerwall, SmartThings Energy can sync with the Storm Watch feature so you can receive severe weather notifications on your Samsung phone or TV. In addition to the Powerwall, SmartThings Energy will be able to connect to other Tesla products, including its electric vehicles, solar inverters and wall connector charging solutions.
This collaboration is possible thanks to Tesla APISamsung claims SmartThings Energy is the first to take advantage of this.
Samsung says Powerwall Connect will be demonstrated at Samsung’s booth at CES next week, but it’s targeting a wider release by “the second quarter of 2024.” The blog post also warns that the features listed there are subject to change, so what you can do may differ when the features are actually available.
