Whether they’re designed for indoor or outdoor use, many of the best pizza ovens you can buy today can only cook 13-inch pies. This is great for most situations, especially if you’re keen on hosting a party where everyone can choose their own ingredients. However, sometimes you need more space, whether for a larger pizza or for baking or baking other foods. Ooni is filling that gap with its latest model, the Koda 2 Max, the company’s largest pizza oven yet. The 24-inch gas burner can bake pizzas up to 20 inches while still achieving the high-temperature cooking quality Ooni ovens are known for.
In addition to being the largest option in the Ooni range, the Koda 2 Max also comes with some additional features that make it an upgrade over some of the company’s other models. First, it offers dual-zone cooking, with both burners having independent controls. This will allow you to cook two foods at different temperatures at the same time, or simply use the hot and cold sides of the oven when needed. To achieve this, Ooni placed the two burners on the sides of the Koda 2 Max, rather than in the back of the oven. The company says its G2 gas technology includes a burner with a tapered flame for more efficient heat distribution and more consistent cooking stone temperatures.
Another update is the front-mounted color digital temperature display. While this isn’t the first Ooni oven to show you the internal temperature, it’s the first to do so in color and the first to send those statistics to your phone. The Koda 2 Max retains the overall look and feel of previous gas-powered Koda products, including folding legs for transport. It will also connect to a propane tank like previous models to provide hassle-free cooking where you don’t have to control the fire while making pizza and other dishes.
The Ooni Koda 2 Max will be available in May for $999, making it the most expensive outdoor product in the company’s pizza oven line. The all-electric Volt launched at the same price, but now sells for $899. If you don’t need all the fancy new features and extra cooking space, the Koda 16 ($599) and Koda 12 ($399) are hundreds of dollars cheaper and, as their names suggest, can bake 16- and 12-inch pizzas.
