Microsoft quietly launched a dedicated Copilot app for Android. The new app, available in the Google Play Store, provides access to Microsoft’s artificial intelligence-powered Copilot without the Bing mobile app.discoverer newwinthe Android version of Copilot has been available for nearly a week, but the iOS version is not available yet.
The Microsoft Copilot app on Android is very similar to ChatGPT, with access to chatbot functionality, image generation via DALL-E 3, and the ability to draft text for emails and documents. It also includes free access to OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model, which you must pay if you use ChatGPT.
The Copilot app for Android has been released more than a month after Microsoft renamed Bing Chat to Copilot. Microsoft originally launched AI push in its Bing search engine earlier this year, integrating a ChatGPT-like interface into search results. While the feature is still available, Microsoft has dropped the Bing Chat branding and allowed Copilot to offer a more standalone experience that also exists on its own dedicated domain at copilot.microsoft.com – much like ChatGPT.
Launching a mobile app for Copilot seems like the next logical step in expanding the standalone Copilot experience, especially since Bing Chat Enterprise has also been rebranded as Copilot. While there’s no sign of an iOS version of Copilot yet, I expect it to be coming soon. Until then, you can always access existing Copilot functionality using the Bing app on your iPhone or iPad.
