Journalists, creators, and verbose VCs on X now have a new way to burn out on main. X now allows verified organizations and Premium+ subscribers “article.”
The feature adds a basic text editing interface that includes embedded media and some text formatting options, such as the ability to create bulleted lists. It also appears that the length of the article may exceed the 25,000-character limit currently set for the “Longer Posts” feature for Premium subscribers. Based on my initial testing, I hit the character limit for the article, which is over 100,000 characters or approximately 15,000 words.
The editing interface is as follows:
It’s worth noting that Twitter started creating longer posts long before Elon Musk bought the company. The company showed off an early version, initially called “Notes,” as it hoped to attract newsletter writers and other creators to the service. Musk confirmed that the release tools are still in development.
The launch of the publishing tool is noteworthy because Musk has often been hostile to journalists on his platform.Last year, Musk changed X’s recommendation algorithm to include links to newsletter platform Substack In users’ “For You” feeds, this limits the influence many independent writers have on the service. The X also comes from a news story shared on the platform last fall (the headline eventually returned in a much smaller font).
