Geeta Pandey is at bbc news Report:
In early December, Mangesh Kumar (not his real name) was browsing on Facebook when he saw a video from the All India Pregnancy Employment Service and decided to check it out.
The job sounded too good to be true: money — and lots of it — in return for getting a woman pregnant.
Of course, this is too good to be true. The 33-year-old, who works for a wedding party decoration company and earns 15,000 rupees ($180; £142) a month, has so far lost 16,000 rupees to scammers, who are still demanding more.
But Mangesh, who hails from the northern Indian state of Bihar, is not the only one to fall for the scam.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kalyan Anand, head of Bihar’s Nawada district cyber cell, told the BBC there were hundreds of victims in an elaborate scam in which gullible men were lured into paying huge sums of money. Payday promises hand over cash and a night in a hotel with a childless woman.
So far, his team has arrested eight men, seized nine mobile phones and a printer, and is still looking for 18 more people.
But finding the victims proved trickier.
“The gang has been active for a year and we believe they have defrauded hundreds of people, but so far no one has come forward to complain, probably out of shame,” he explained.
one victim told British Broadcasting Corporation They get 500,000 rupees (almost three years’ salary) just for having sex with a woman and 800,000 rupees if she gets pregnant. The scammers sent him photos of several women and asked him to choose which one to impregnate.
The man ended up paying over Rs 16,000 to the scammer and shared it with the scammer British Broadcasting Corporation The seemingly official “Baby Birth Agreement” document sent to him by the scammer appeared to be signed in the name of American TV personality “Oprah Winfrey” (which is weird).
If you are in desperate need of money, you may make some rash decisions on how to improve your financial situation.
While it’s easy to despise men who fall for such scams, thinking they’ll be richly rewarded for having sex with women, the people we should really be angry with are those who orchestrate scams and take advantage of others’ desperation.
