In a rare move, Google has expanded everyone’s access to subscriber-only photo tools. Free Google Photos users don’t have to pay at least $20 a year to get its enhanced editing features. This means that all users will get some tools powered by Google’s artificial intelligence, such as Photo UnBlur, Magic Eraser, and Magic Editor.
Photo UnBlur works just like it sounds, making a slightly blurry photo sharper. The Magic Eraser tool lets you remove or disguise people or things from your photos, like a rogue trash can or photo bomber. Magic Editor uses generative AI to move, stretch, and resize objects. You can even bring yourself to the center of the photo or closer to another person. It also allows you to make large-scale edits, such as changing the sky from gray to blue. Magic Editor Android and iOS Google Photos users will get 10 monthly deals, while anyone wanting to increase that limit will need a Pixel device or a paid Google One plan of 2TB+.
Starting on May 15, the Google Photos feature will roll out to non-subscribers in a few weeks. On desktop, these features are only available if you have a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118+. To access on a mobile device, you need at least Android 8.0 or iOS 15 and 3GB RAM.
