CertiK report finds hackers and scammers taking things easy on weekends

When hackers continue To hack into the crypto industry for cash, the dollar amount dropped significantly compared to the previous year.
According to security-focused CertiK’s 2023 annual web3 security report, security incident “losses” totaled nearly $2 billion in 2023, a 51% decrease from 2022. The report defines loss in this case as the value of a digital asset stolen by a malicious actor.
Last year, 10 incidents, including the $200 million Mixin Network and the $197 million Euler Finance hacks, caused $1.11 billion in losses. The average median loss for other incidents was approximately $101,000.
What was not mentioned in the report was that there was a “significant decrease” in hacking and scam incidents on weekends in 2023. “Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have the same incident rate, while Monday has a significantly lower incident rate” which is quieter, Saturday is quieter again, and Sunday is the quietest. ” CertiK co-founder and CEO Gu Ronghui told TechCrunch+.
