After a week-long non-stop speed marathon, the 2024 Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) has come to an end. This year’s charity event raised more than $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.Other highlights include breaking four world records and a dog named Peanutbutter beating a bizarre NES classic birnessite.

This year’s AGDQ, held in Pittsburgh, passed the million-dollar threshold early on day five.Outstanding games include no-hitters Resident Evil 2 (2019), super mario 64 Completed entirely with an electric drum kit (23 minutes!), and a blindfolded four-player/single-controller run The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

World records broken at this year’s event include speed runner Glitchcat7 completing the extremely difficult race super mario world module glow 41 minutes and 36 seconds.Thalia is done celeste module Strawberry Jam Collaboration 49 minutes and 13 seconds. Mechalink beats the Sega Saturn game virtual hydride 27 minutes and 11 seconds. Finally, Bobby conquers Castlevania’s spiritual successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night — On Hard Mode — 30 minutes and 24 seconds.

The conference room was packed with gamers and speedrunners, playing and watching the game on various computer monitors.

The Peanut Butter Shiba Inu has now gone down in the annals of GDQ history as the first canine-assisted speed race at a charity event. This well-trained dog helped his owner (JSR_) complete the 1985 NES game birnessite 26 minutes and 24 seconds. He responds to well-timed commands, pressing his paws to the floor pedal-operated controller and moving the game’s red and green pipes up and down to carry Professor Hector to safety. (He was compensated by Ham and Cheese for his work.) You can watch Peanut Butter’s memorable run below.

This year’s AGDQ pushed Games Done Quick’s 14-year fundraising total to more than $48.9 million. In addition to Prevent Cancer Foundation, the showcases have raised funds for organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, Malala Fund, Autism Research and CARE. The next marathon will be an all-women’s speed run called “Frost Fatales” that will be held online from March 3-10, with proceeds going to the National Women’s Law Center.
