    Google Maps finally joins Waze’s tunnel navigation feature

    Google has finally copied the work of other GPS app Waze and added support for Bluetooth beacons so you can navigate tunnels or other satellite blind spots. 9 to 5 google Reported. The feature has been widely rolled out on the Android version of Google Maps, but is still missing in the iOS version.

    As a reminder, Bluetooth beacons are designed to provide you with navigation and traffic information underground where GPS signals cannot pass.Also known as Waze beacons, they are "A battery-operated, low-energy microcontroller hardware that sends a one-way signal to the user’s phone or tablet" According to Google, there is no need to capture any user data. They are installed underground in New York, Paris, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and many other cities. Waze first launched this feature in 2016.

    This feature is not enabled by default, so here’s how to turn it on.In Maps, go to Settings > Navigation settings and find "driving options" Near the bottom of the list. Below these you will see the Bluetooth Tunnel Beacon (provided you have the latest version) and can turn it on.

    The feature first started showing up to some betas and other users in October 2023, but is now in the main version. It should make navigation fairly smooth, especially in tricky tunnels with multiple lanes and exits. This is the latest in a series of new features, including electric vehicle charging information, artificial intelligence capabilities, immersive views and more.
