LG’s Labs division often takes technology and existing products and transforms them into lifestyle-focused ideas and concepts. LG Labs is responsible for the Dukebox, a vacuum tube-driven speaker with a transparent OLED screen, the two-monitor LG Gram, and several other projects. But the LG Bon Voyage concept trailer is even more involved, incorporating many of LG’s “hot hits” from CES, retooled and engineered for camping in the near future, both incredibly comfortable and… not quite possible.
Trailer dimensions are 2m x 3.8m and height is 2.2m. LG’s explanation suggests that you can choose which gadgets and features are included.
This is an updated version of LG’s concept trailer, this time based on customer feedback (although it’s never been on the market, so it must mean expected customer). The redesign aims to make better use of space, with LG technology crammed into almost every corner.
The touch panel on the trailer door runs webOS and provides the trailer with an interface and relevant information such as weather and charging capacity. A spokesperson said the concept trailer at CES 2024 was equipped with a 10kWh battery.
LG Labs’ mind-bending capsule coffee machine, the Duobo, looks like a lunar lander and sits inside a trailer with a microwave next to it. However, the refrigerator is accessed from the outside. The pull-out table on the other side of the door has a built-in induction burner. This trailer probably has more cooking options than your home. Although I can’t see it, there’s a water purifier somewhere inside, and for when you really want to spend time outdoors, there’s a row of removable light strips set up on the outside of the trailer.
LG made a splash at CES by putting its Styler device, a clothes freshener that squeezes and steams clothes, into the trailer, because you can’t have glamping without glamour. There are showers and toilets, but as far as I can tell, neither has any internet technology.
LG is looking at going solar to power all of this tech, but with a giant charging port on the back. This will require a lot of strength. In addition to the lifestyle equipment, the Bon Voyage also has a huge OLED screen on the left side, above another pull-out surface. Oh, and in the back of the trailer, there’s a portable karaoke set with two wireless microphones and speakers. Oh, and there’s cocktail accoutrements on both sides. Do I have to repeat it? Glamping.
LG plans to continue developing Bon Voyage. If Sony can build a car, why can’t LG pull out a trailer?
