Tesla has lowered the price of its Full Self-Driving software in the U.S. and Canada. According to the company’s post on According to reports, the price is less than US$12,000 (CAD$16,000) Elektrek, the report also reports that Tesla has stopped offering the $6,000 Enhanced Autopilot option. Current owners of the kit can upgrade to FSD for $2,000.
Tesla’s driver-assistance features have been under scrutiny from regulators for years, and despite the name, full self-driving at this stage is not meant to completely replace a human driver. Tesla notes on its website that the current FSD feature “requires active driver supervision and does not enable the vehicle to drive itself.” In March, the company reportedly made it mandatory for its employees to show FSD to buyers before they take their new cars home so that they understand the capabilities the software offers.
The latest price drop comes just days after Tesla slashed monthly subscription fees for FSD, which the company recently dubbed Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Subscription costs were previously $199/month and are now $99/month. Tesla also lowered the starting prices of Model Y, X and S models by $2,000 each this weekend. Earlier this month, Tesla reported that its vehicle deliveries in the first quarter of 2024 fell short of expectations, falling 8% annually.
