Joining now to start providing playlist generation functionality powered by artificial intelligence. Currently, Maestro has provided a beta version to a small number of Amazon Music users on iOS and Android in the United States.
People included in the beta will see Maestro on the home screen after updating to the latest version of the app. They can also access the tool to create new playlists by clicking the plus button.
The idea is to use natural language prompts to create any playlist imaginable. Your prompts can include sounds, activities, emotions, and even emojis. You might ask Maestro to make a playlist of songs that sound like robot emojis (in which case, you might get a bunch of Daft Punk tracks). Other tips suggested by the company include “😭 and eat 🍝,” “Make my 👶 a genius,” “Hip-hop in the Myspace era,” and the odd “Music my grandparents loved.” Uh www.
Based on these ideas, the Maestro seems more or less ready to handle any prompt you can throw at it, although Amazon notes that the technology is still in beta. Therefore, Maestro may not always get things done right away. The company also said it has safeguards in place to ban offensive language and inappropriate prompts.
Amazon plans to roll out Maestro more broadly over time. As it stands, Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can listen to Maestro playlists instantly and save them for later (or share them with friends). Prime members and users of the ad-supported free tier can listen to a 30-second preview of a playlist before saving it.
Earlier this month, Spotify became available to premium members in the UK and Australia. AI playlists work in much the same way as Maestro.
