On Wednesday, some iPhone users received a very concerning alert on their devices. Apple sends notices to individuals in 92 countries warning they may be targets of hired spyware attacks, TechCrunch Report. “Apple has detected that you are being targeted by a hired spyware attack that is attempting to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-,” the message reads.
Apple’s alert later shared more information about the incident. “It is very likely that this attack is specifically targeting you because of who you are or what you have done. While it is never possible to achieve absolute certainty in detecting such attacks, Apple is confident in this warning – please take it seriously,” the alert said. continued. Apple explained that it could not provide any information about what led to the message because of concerns that additional information would help attackers avoid detection in the future. The company used internal information and investigations to identify the attacks.
This isn’t the first time Apple has had to send such a notification. Since 2021, individuals in more than 150 countries have received similar messages, including a warning sent to some journalists and politicians in India last October. However, it is unclear which countries individuals were alerted to.
