X is developing features that would allow administrators of Communities (the platform’s subreddit group tool) to designate spaces as containing “adult content.” The change was confirmed by X engineers, amid reports that the Elon Musk-owned company is working to support NSFW groups.
In X’s post, Engineer Dong Wook Chung “Soon” NSFW content will be automatically filtered in the app’s social features. “Administrators can now set ‘adult content’ in settings to avoid automatic filtering of content,” Chung said.
as Burundi Researchers previously found clues that Project X enabled “adult-sensitive” content settings. X Users can share nudity and other “graphic” content, but it is not allowed to appear in certain parts of the app, such as community profile photos and cover images.
X’s community features predate Musk’s acquisition of the company. Twitter is trying out the idea, saying it will provide “a more intimate space for conversations” on the platform. Although Twitter has never publicly discussed enabling NSFW features for communities, unlike most of its social media peers, the app allows adult content. The company is reportedly considering creating an OnlyFans competitor in 2022 through its creator subscription product. The plan was eventually cancelled, platform game Newsletter over concerns it would “exacerbate” the company’s problem with illegal child exploitation content.
It’s unclear whether X’s current leadership has addressed these concerns.in a X engineer Chung said the new filtering settings are “intended to make the community safer for everyone by automatically filtering out” adult content. “Only users of a certain age can search communities containing NSFW content.”
X did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
