Apple reportedly will finally launch new iPad in early May BloombergMark Gurman. New iPad Pro and faster iPad Air models with OLED displays are expected to be launched, including a 12.9-inch model for the first time in the series. Details about upcoming iPad models have been circulating in rumors since last year.
The new iPad Pro models will reportedly add OLED displays (providing deeper blacks and richer colors) and run on the new M3 chip, which is already used in several Macs. It is said that the new tablet will be launched with a redesigned Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard. Apart from the white option, the latter has remained unchanged since its launch four years ago.
Meanwhile, the iPad Air is said to be running on a new processor. Bloomberg didn’t specify which one, but considering the current model uses the M1 and Apple may want to reserve the M3 for the more expensive Pro, the M2 sounds like a safe bet. The 12.9-inch screen option will mark the first time the iPad Air series offers a display larger than 10.9 inches. Although Apple will price this model higher than expected for smaller models, it will be by far the cheapest way to get an extra-large iPad screen.
Gurman said earlier this month that the new tablet would launch alongside the M3 MacBook Air, but the laptop didn’t arrive with any iPad included. He’s now reporting that Apple’s release schedule has been pushed back to finish developing the device’s software and iron out kinks in the “complex new manufacturing technology” they require.
