X extends support for key sign-in and makes the option available to users around the world as long as they access the app on their iPhone. The social media company (formerly Twitter) originally launched key support for U.S. iOS users in January. Now, X Safety accounts are confirmed to be rolling out globally, giving even more people the option to use the login alternative.
Master keys are considered more secure than passwords because they are less susceptible to phishing or social engineering schemes and can prevent login theft. When a user activates and sets up a key login, they will create a key pair as their digital authentication certificate. Services that provide a sign-in option can only access one of these keys, which must then be paired with another key stored locally on the user’s device to verify their identity. Users only need to confirm that they are the person accessing their account via biometric credentials or device password.
To enable the key on the X, users need to launch the iOS app and go to “Settings & Privacy” under “Your Account.” In Security & Account Access, they can find the key under Additional Password Protection. Unfortunately, X hasn’t revealed if and when this option will be available to Android users.
