The Apple Vision Pro headphones are priced at $3,499, which should not be underestimated. But if you choose not to pay the extra $24.99 per month or the $499 for the two-year AppleCare Plus warranty, be sure to treat your new headphones with caution. According to Apple’s updated Vision Pro support page, repairing the cracked glass cover will cost $799 for users without an insurance plan.

The terms and conditions (pdf) explain that coverage includes any “accidental and unintentional external events,” including liquid spills or dropped equipment. If you’re extra clumsy, don’t worry: AppleCare Plus covers an “unlimited” number of events over a two-year period for $299 each time.
More advanced repairs may be where the Vision Pro really needs Apple’s extended warranty coverage. Repairing additional damage could cost up to $2,399, more than two-thirds of the cost of a new Vision Pro, and extended coverage is in place even if the damage requires replacement of the unit. Apple didn’t specify what level of damage might require a complete replacement, but your local repair shop may not have the 23-megapixel Micro-OLED display on the back.
The increased availability of DIY and third-party repair services has sometimes provided a cheaper alternative to Apple’s official route for repairing other devices. Last year, as several states including California, Minnesota and New York passed right-to-repair laws, Apple pledged to provide parts, tools and information for DIY repairs of its devices.
Apple expanded self-service repairs to the new phones about a month after the iPhone 15 launched last fall, and if the Vision Pro follows suit, DIY and third-party repairs could be another option. Anything damaged. But for now, Vision Pro buyers can consider adding the cost of AppleCare Plus to the already high price and be extra careful when wearing their new glasses.
