When looking for a device to read e-books, you have several options. You can always buy a tablet or use a phone, but these devices are multipurpose and can be used for many things, such as surfing the web or scrolling on Twitter. If you’re looking for something that can strictly read books, e-readers, while niche, are designed to house all your books in a virtual library with limited functionality.
Amazon is one of the pioneers of e-readers and has dominated the space for years with its ever-expanding Kindle lineup, which is made up of a variety of unique models, each with their own pros and cons. Most of the device functions as a simple e-book reader; however, with Kindle Scribe, Amazon seems to be moving beyond books and into writing – which will make future Kindles function more like paper.
Below, we’ve listed every model currently available. Sometimes there is no deal for one or any product but we mention the latest sale price in these cases. Keep in mind that Amazon also offers a 20% discount on all Kindles when you trade in select units, so there are other ways to save money when all models are off.
Best Kindle Deals (2022)
In case you missed it, Amazon released a new entry-level Kindle last year, designed to replace the 2019 model. The latest Kindle starts at $99.99, bringing Amazon’s basic e-reader more in line with the latest Kindle Paperwhite and offering a host of quality-of-life improvements in the process. The new model has longer battery life, a 300ppi screen, and now charges via USB-C instead of Micro USB. It also flaunts 16GB of storage by default and comes in a new “denim” color, similar to the muted blue you might associate with jeans.
In the past, Amazon’s latest ad-supported Kindle has been reduced to $74.99 (a $25 discount) and includes three months of Kindle Unlimited. For now, though, you can only buy the Kindle at full retail price at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. However, you can get it on Amazon at a discount with advertising, a power adapter, and a cloth cover, starting at $134.97 ($15 off). Whether you choose the standalone or bundled version, the new Kindle is still a worthy choice if you want an e-reader for less than the price of the latest Paperwhite.

The Best Kindle for Kids (2022) Deals
The new basic Kindle isn’t the only e-reader Amazon is launching in 2022. The new entry-level model is available alongside the new Kindle Kids, which is the same as the standard model but comes with a few accessories and offers age-appropriate content for young readers who prefer digital books. Like the previous generation of Kindle Kids, the new model retails for $20 more than the base model, bringing the suggested retail price to $119.99.
In terms of add-ons, the new Kindle Kids edition comes with four items: the device, case, two-year extended replacement warranty if the device is damaged, and one year of Amazon Kids Plus.Apart from the kid-friendly mode, the latter is the biggest selling point of the device, as it allows parents to grant their children access to a digital library of kid-friendly books, e.g. Percy Jackson and entire harry potter series at no additional cost.
While we’ve seen the price of Kindle Kids drop to $79.99, there aren’t any deals on it yet. That means you can only buy Amazon’s latest Kindle Kids from Amazon and Best Buy for the full retail price of $119.99.

The Kindle Oasis is the most expensive model in the series, starting at $249.99. The device comes in two storage configurations: 8GB or 32GB, and like the other models, you can choose to show ads on the lock screen or not.
The 2019 Kindle Oasis looks very similar to the previous model. It retains the waterproof 7-inch 300ppi e-ink display and supports Audible audiobooks via Bluetooth. Unlike previous models, though, it can adjust the color temperature to a yellow-toned display, making it easier to read at night.
In the past, we’ve seen the 8GB Kindle Oasis drop to $174.99, which is still the lowest price for a standalone configuration to date. Unfortunately, however, the ad-supported Oasis currently only retails on Amazon, starting at $249.99.

Best Deals on Kindle Scribe
The ad-free Kindle Scribe is Amazon’s largest e-reader yet, and it also represents a departure from past Kindle models. It has a 10.2-inch 300 dpi display and the same excellent battery life as the Kindle. However, what sets the Scribe apart from other models is that it comes with one of two styluses that can be used to annotate books, doodle, or jot down notes. We found the e-reader’s note-taking capabilities to be lacking in testing, but Amazon has begun improving the software through free OTA software updates to help it keep pace with other E Ink competitors.
Kindle Scribe typically starts at $339.99. However, Amazon Prime members can now purchase the product on Amazon, starting at $269.99 (a $70 discount) for the 16GB base configuration that comes with a Basic Pen and three months of Kindle Unlimited, which is $30 off its all-time low. The same model is also available on Amazon for $359.97 with a cloth cover and power adapter ($60 off) or $379.97 with a leather cover and power adapter ($60 off).
As for the model with the Premium Pen, which offers shortcut buttons and a built-in eraser, it’s on sale on Amazon in a 16GB configuration for Prime members starting at $294.99 ($75 off). You can also get the 16GB model with a premium pen, folio cover, and power adapter starting at $389.97 ($60 off).
