Tesla has launched a new Model Y configuration with only 2 seats and plenty of space in the back for transportation or customized solutions.
It’s aimed at businesses.
The new car was unveiled in France today.
Tesla senior account manager Clément Maguet announced the new car on LinkedIn:
“Tesla has developed a 2-seater Model Y with a storage capacity of 2,158 liters and a cruising range of up to 565 kilometers (WLTP cycle). This model is eligible for commercial vehicle tax.”
The new version of Model Y provides more rear storage space and greater cruising range.
565 kilometers (351 miles), about 30 kilometers more than the highest-rated Model Y consumer version.
Tesla has not yet announced the price of the new Model Y, and interested buyers need to contact Tesla’s fleet department.
The feature is currently only available in France, and it’s unclear if or when Tesla plans to expand the program.
In France, 2- or 3-seater vehicles used for commercial purposes are exempt from TVA tax.
Margate pointed out that the country currently has about 6.3 million commercial vehicles, most of which are powered by diesel, and Tesla is entering this market with this new version of the Model Y.
Tesla will drive a 2-seater Model Y to visit Tesla stores across France.
Electrek’s view
I like this. More space, more range, and hopefully cheaper. If your business frequently ships items that fit in the back of a Model Y, you can easily use it for transportation.
Some businesses can also use the space to customize settings relevant to their business, like Tesla does for its mobile services division:
I know France has specific incentives for this type of vehicle, but I hope Tesla expands it to other markets. This is a cool idea.
