In a new video, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Meledandri said the next movie is in development, with a release date set for April 3, 2026.
Meledandri said Paris-based Illumination Studio, which produced the first film, is again storyboarding the film under the direction of Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenik. He added that animation will begin soon. After being released in the United States “and many other markets around the world” on April 3, the film will be released in “select territories” throughout the rest of the month.
Miyamoto said the film will “have a bright and interesting story” that expands on the world established in the first film.
With the live-action version announced for November The Legend of Zelda Movies, we now have confirmation that not one but two movies based on major Nintendo intellectual properties are in development. Not much information is available about the company’s theatrical plans for “Link.”Wes Ball, director Maze Runner trilogy and upcoming kingdom of the planet of the apeswill direct the film, which will be produced by Avi Arad and Miyamoto.
