starship home, Meta Quest 3 is a comfortable mixed reality game that attempts to delve into “what makes games meaningful in mixed reality.” The game turns your environment into a custom spaceship and you into an intergalactic gardener, developer Doug North Cook wrote on Reddit. This is “the first answer to this question” from independent studio Creature.
A Meta Quest blog post says players will customize their starships by “strategically placing virtual windows, control panels, and other components” in rooms. The game’s trailer shows that outside the window, you’ll see things like space creatures, planets, cloud tops, and travel animations as you exit the planet. When players land on a planet, they collect plant clippings and cultivate them on the ship. The game uses the Quest 3’s automatic room gridding, so you don’t need to do any manual blocking to tell the headset where items are in your space.
starship homeThe story puts players in charge of exploring planets and saving alien flora from “an evil blight that threatens plant life across the galaxy.” According to the Creature website, other aspects of the game will include entering the dreams of plants, navigating using star maps, interstellar space hopping, and “uncovering the mystery of diseases that plague plants.”
The whole thing sounds like it could be a lot of fun – if done right. The developer doesn’t appear to have revealed whether your spaceship will persist throughout the game (it sounds like it might be the case, as Cook replied on Reddit that there will be save files “so you can each have your own starship” ).
