Last year, Spotify followed in the footsteps of many companies and ventured into the world of AI prompts. The platform has released AI Playlist, a new beta feature that lets you create playlists with just a few words to fit into your desired musical vibe, such as “An indie-folk playlist, give my brain a Warm hug”.
According to Spotify, the AI playlist will accept prompts involving animals, movie characters, colors, places, activities and emojis. Spotify’s examples run the gamut from “sad music that paints dying flowers” to “relaxing music that helps me get through allergy season.” It suggests using a variety of traits in the prompts to build the ideal playlist to fit your vibe.
The AI Playlist beta is available to Premium subscribers on Android and iOS devices in the UK and Australia. If you belong to this group, access it via the “+” button in the upper right corner of the library. Click on the AI playlist and select an existing prompt or create your own. Spotify will build a playlist and you can preview it, delete tracks, and provide comments. Once you’re satisfied, click “Create” and this will be saved to your library.
Spotify’s AI playlists come more than a year after Spotify launched AI DJ, which aggregates the music you’re currently listening to, music you’ve played before, and songs it thinks you’ll like based on your history. If the song playing doesn’t suit your mood, you can ask the DJ to switch it.
