Sonos will launch a follow-up to its Roam wireless AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth speakers in June, along with a new app specifically for its portable speakers.This is based on BloombergMark Gurman of Open Today’s newsletter claims that the company has retuned the hardware to address the speaker’s Bluetooth issues.
Gurman said the new app will also support the company’s rumored $449 high-end headphones, which may also be available in June. However, users will have to wait for Move 1 and 2 and the first generation of Roam to get support, as the company is reportedly having trouble with software upgrades.
The original Roam was a solid speaker, but had a few quirks, like no stereo pairing over Bluetooth, which made edgeChris Welch called it out in his original comments. As he wrote when reporting on Sonos’ roadmap in November, some owners also complained about the long-term durability of its batteries. The new Roam is expected to have top-mounted touch controls similar to the Era 100 and 300 speakers. In addition, the company’s plans reportedly include TV top boxes and updated versions of the Sub, Era 100 and Sonos Arc soundbar to support its hardware revenue.
