Samsung’s latest smartphones, the S24 and S24 Ultra, come packed with impressive technology, such as the company’s new Galaxy AI Assistant and Circle to Search functionality.
The new models come in a number of “neutral colors inspired by nature,” according to the brand, including an S24-exclusive “Sandstone Orange” — which looks very close to Pantone’s recently announced 2024 color of the year, Peach Fuzz.
But we don’t have time to argue about the sandstone color, because the real star is a delicious buttery color that Samsung made my life harder by giving it two different names: “Amber Yellow” for the S24 (if I bought it from 2017 I’ve heard it over the years, and it’s a misnomer) Ultra’s colors don’t even include amber) and “titanium yellow.”

The untrained eye may perceive this color (let’s call it “titanium yellow” for clarity) as a regular gold. But the color has a more complicated origin, namely the runways of the global fall 2023 fashion weeks. This particular color is a favorite of fashion houses showing their Spring 2024 collections there (fashion brands present their collections at Fashion Week six months before the clothes are available for purchase), so it also appears in our technology Not surprising.

Titanium yellow’s journey from high fashion darling to Samsung smartphones is a bit like Miranda Priestley’s diatribe about the origins of azure. As Priestley said, people would be walking around wearing titanium yellow Samsung Ultras, not knowing that the fashion industry made sure it ended up in their hands.
