Osaka, Japan – Panasonic announced today that its Heating & Ventilation and Air Conditioning business will establish a business alliance with German energy control solutions company tado° to jointly develop software for Panasonic’s air-to-water (A2W) heat pumps and propose and sell both companies’ products and services. Through this agreement, Panasonic will improve A2W operational efficiency, help customers reduce energy costs, and promote decarbonization.
Europe has a strong interest in environmental protection and measures to combat climate change, and is therefore increasingly paying attention to energy-saving measures and energy management. A2W heats indoor spaces by circulating hot water generated by collecting atmospheric heat, which can produce less carbon dioxide.2 Emissions are lower than heating equipment using fossil fuels. The demand for A2W has been increasing due to its low environmental load.
In 2008, Panasonic began selling Aquarea, a residential A2W system developed based on accumulated energy-saving technologies of Eco Cute and air conditioners. Aquarea maintains heating performance in cold climates1 Suitable for cooling in warm climates. The company has worked hard to expand its product lineup and in May 2023 became the first Japanese manufacturer to launch products using natural refrigerants.
Panasonic’s alliance partner tado° is an industry-leading energy control solutions company founded in 2011 in Munich, Germany. The company produces and sells smart thermostats that connect air conditioning equipment (including heating equipment) to the Internet and provide remote control services. Mobile app and supports reducing energy consumption. Connect the company’s smart thermostats to indoor heating and cooling units, such as radiators, to remotely adjust temperatures, monitor usage conditions and effectively operate devices in a variety of conditions, including varying weather and device usage patterns. tado° also sells electricity generated from renewable energy sources. The company also provides solutions to reduce energy costs2 Customers are encouraged to use electricity during off-peak hours.
Based on the business alliance, Panasonic will connect its A2W with tado°’s smart thermostat. In addition to the A2W main device installed outdoors, it can also perform remote temperature control on indoor devices such as radiators. The company will also be able to offer services that enable optimal heating and cooling operations through machine learning based on weather forecasts and customer usage patterns. Panasonic will help customers reduce energy costs and contribute to decarbonization by promoting suggestions for operating equipment that uses renewable energy to generate electricity at more affordable prices.
Panasonic plans to launch a solution proposal combining its A2W with services provided by tado° in Germany and Italy by the end of this year, and is considering joint development of A2W-specific software, which will help further save energy. future.
Masaharu Michiura, President of Heating & Ventilation and Air Conditioning, said that through the business alliance, they will contribute to balancing a comfortable lifestyle with a sustainable global environment and further accelerate the ongoing Panasonic Green Impact Plan across the Panasonic Group.
Christian Deilmann, founder of tado°, commented: “I am delighted to be working with Panasonic, a long-established company with a leading market share in the European A2W industry. I believe that the cooperation between the two companies will be an important step towards achieving our goals The company’s mission to accelerate Europe’s transition to green energy.”
