If you’ve been eyeing earbuds but been put off by their high price, now is the perfect time to buy them. Originally priced at $300, these premium headphones are down to an all-time low price of $230 on Amazon, a savings of $70. This offer is only available on black earbuds. Released in the summer of 2023, the Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones bring significant upgrades over previous models. They have the best noise cancellation and call quality in Sony’s earbud range, and have built-in Alexa support.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds are our top pick this year. They are more comfortable than the WF-1000XM4, are 25% smaller, 20% lighter, and fit better. The charging case is also more compact than its predecessor. In terms of sound quality, they further improve upon the already impressive features of the 1000X series. The speaker is slightly larger than previous models, and its Dynamic Driver X delivers rich, clear sound and bass. The Sony WF-1000XM5 scored 87 points last year.

The earbuds offer adaptive sound control, which automatically adjusts your noise cancellation settings to best suit your environment or the activity you’re doing. You may want to enable active noise cancellation when you’re working from home, but switch to transparency mode when you’re out for a run. You need to enable location services for this feature using Sony’s Headphones Connect app.

The app also allows for other types of customization, such as changing the controls assigned to the touch sensors on the earbuds. The Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones also support multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, which means you can pair them with two devices at the same time. There’s a Voice Chat mode that pauses the audio when it detects you’ve started a conversation, and there’s an equalizer in the app where you can adjust sound settings.
