missing daughter Olivia Colman and Jesse Buckley co-star in Thea Sharrock’s comedy evil little lettersThis suspense novel is adapted from a real scandal on the Isle of Wight in the 1930s. The trailer is very interesting.
The film, written by Jonny Sweet, is set in the English coastal town of Littlehampton, with Colman playing Edith Swann, a rather conservative local. Her neighbor, the lively, foul-mouthed Rose Gooding, has moved to this country from Ireland and challenges Edith with her free-wheeling way of speaking (she makes many glorious dirty jokes). When the local mailbox began receiving a barrage of brazen, profanity-laden, scandal-themed anonymous letters, residents pointed the finger at Rose.
However, the riots didn’t just stay on the streets of this seaside village, but somehow found their way into the national conversation and all the way to the courtrooms. Who sent the letter? Local police officer Gladys Moss (black mirrorAnjana Vasan may be Rose’s only hope of clearing her name.
evil little letters The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year and will be released in UK cinemas on February 23. A U.S. release date has not yet been announced.
