The White House issued a policy memo asking NASA to establish a new time standard for the moon by 2026. Lunar Time Coordinated (LTC) will establish an official time reference to help guide future lunar missions. The United States, China, Japan, India and Russia have all planned or completed space missions to the moon.
NASA (and the White House) aren’t the only ones trying. The European Space Agency is also trying to establish a time zone outside of Earth’s… area.
Time moves slightly faster on the Moon, given its weaker gravity. “The same clock we use on Earth will move at a different speed on the Moon,” said Kevin Coggins, NASA’s director of space communications and navigation. Reuters.
