MrBeast may be the king of YouTube, but now he’s trying something new with his content: cross-posting his YouTube videos directly to Elon Musk’s social media platform X.

On Monday night, MrBeast (whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson) uploaded a video directly to Musk’s social media platform for the first time.

“$1 Cars vs $100 Million Cars!!!” MrBeast posted the video, sharing the video’s title along with the full 16 and a half minute upload. “I was curious about how much ad revenue a video on

Musk immediately shared MrBeast’s post to his more than 169 million followers.

“The first MrBeast video posted directly on 𝕏!” Musk release.

    Mr. Beast’s big transformation

The owners of the platform (formerly Twitter) have been very active over the past year in contacting prominent creators, podcasters, and political commentators on X and asking them to upload content to the site. In fact, Musk had previously responded to some public posts from other users asking MrBeast to upload his videos to X, adding extra encouragement to their requests.

MrBeast’s recent decision to upload directly to X is an interesting one, as he has been quite vocal about why he hasn’t done so before. In a post on X on December 30, MrBeast responded directly to Musk and explained why he was hesitant to upload his content to the site.

“My videos cost millions of dollars to make, and even if they got a billion views on explain, plus a frowning smiley face. “As soon as monetization really starts, I’ll start testing some stuff!”

YouTube has long been the best platform for creators looking to monetize their content directly based on revenue shares. As of now, no other social platform (certainly including X) offers its users such a lucrative revenue model based on ad share monetization.

But, about two weeks later, MrBeast was conducting just such a test.

    MrBeast’s results are “fixed”

It will certainly be interesting to see how MrBeast performs monetizing on X. As of press time, MrBeast’s video upload post has received more than 27,000 retweets and more than 277,000 likes. As of this writing, MrBeast’s posts containing embedded videos have been viewed more than 68 million times. (Note: X does not indicate how many times the video itself has been viewed. Musk deleted This metric was previously made public last spring. )

However, X’s monetization rules only count views for X Premium subscribers. This means that unless the user watching the content pays $8 per month for X’s subscription service (or $16 per month for X Premium+), that user’s views will not count toward the creator’s monetization.

Having said that, MrBeast is likely to receive a large sum of money from X.

Due to this monetization policy, payment amounts on the platform appear to be calculated arbitrarily. For example, when a monetization plan first roll outMusk’s favorite accounts, which consist largely of right-wing political commentators, influencers and meme accounts, have made tens of thousands of dollars from a single payout.

Conversely, when monetization programs are expanded to a broader user base, even popular accounts on the platform find that their highly viewed content generates much less That’s more than the well-publicized hefty payouts to Musk’s favorite posters.

Musk is so confident that MrBeast’s content will thrive on X that it’s no surprise to see the platform paying him more than the revenue share actually generates.

Additionally, MrBeast displays pre-roll video ads on its uploaded content. This was part of Musk’s previous Amplify plan, which was not available to most X users. Before Musk launched his own monetization scheme, select publishers would be paid by Twitter at the time to place video ads before their own video content. X continues to run the program, but it remains unusable for most users.

In addition, e-commerce company Shopify also shared They specialize in video ads on MrBeast’s X videos. This basically guarantees that MrBeast’s X films will be monetized in multiple ways, and in ways that most creators can’t monetize on X.

However, while this experiment will have enlightening results for MrBeast, it’s clearly not an example of the broader creator monetization experience on X.
