Microsoft has officially announced its next Xbox Game Showcase. The summer version will launch on Sunday, June 9 at 10am PT / 1pm ET, the company said in a blog post.
The event will be followed by a mysterious “[REDACTED] Directly” This may not be a mystery. The trailer logo looks like something ripped off from the Call of Duty series, and reports suggest that the next installment of the military shooter will launch this year. Microsoft describes the direct event as “a special deep dive into the next installment of the beloved series.”
To further crush any conspiracy, edge said it has confirmed the event will focus on Activision Blizzard’s long-running franchise. This will be the first Xbox showcase where Microsoft officially controls the makers of Call of Duty.
The company hopes to attract attention with its new portfolio of products post-acquisition, and Xbox will use the entire week (which coincides with the Summer Game Festival) to flesh out its lineup. “The June 9 double-feature broadcast also kicks off a week of coverage from Xbox Wire and the Official Xbox Podcast, including updates and deep dives on a host of games,” the company wrote.
Engadget will be bringing you all the Xbox Game Showcase and Summer Game Festival news in early June.
