Notes, Instagram’s status update feature, will soon be more prominent in the app. Until now, Notes have only been visible in Instagram’s inbox, but short updates will soon be visible directly on users’ profiles as well.
The change should increase the visibility of the feature and give people a new place to interact with their friends’ updates. (Instagram has added a reply feature to Notes.) The app is also experimenting with Notes “prompts,” which will allow users to share questions for their friends to answer in updates, much like Stories’ collaborative “templates.”
Notes are similar to Stories in that updates are only kept for 24 hours, but are only visible to mutual followers, so they aren’t as widely shared as typical Grid or Story posts. The latest update is another sign of how Meta is using the feature, first rolled out, to encourage users to post more frequently for smaller, more curated groups of friends.
Additionally, the app has added a new “” feature that allows users to create stickers with objects in photos, just like this feature. On Instagram, these stickers can be shared in Stories or Reels. It’s also possible to cut from other users’ public posts, effectively giving people a new way to remix other people’s content (which Instagram notes can be disabled if users don’t want their content to be reused) this function.)
