Instagram now lets you edit direct messages up to 15 minutes after sending them

Instagram announced today that users will be able to edit private messages up to 15 minutes after sending them. The company also announced that users will soon also have the option to pin up to three message threads to the top of their inbox.

If your message doesn’t sound quite right, the ability to edit your private message lets you fix spelling mistakes or make changes. To edit a message, you need to press and hold the message and select “Edit” from the drop-down menu. After you edit a message, there will be an “Edited” label at the top of the purple text bubble to notify others that the message has been changed. The feature works similarly to the iMessage editing feature Apple launched nearly two years ago.

As for the option to pin the chat to the top of your inbox, you can do so by swiping left or by tapping and holding on the chat and then tapping “Pin.” You can choose to unpin a topic at any time. This feature can be used to quickly access chats you visit frequently, but it can also be used as a way to remind yourself to return to a specific conversation later.

Instagram also recently started allowing all users to turn off read receipts for all chats or specific chats. You can turn off read receipts for all chats by going to your account settings, clicking “Responses to Messages and Stories,” then clicking the “Show read receipts” button and turning it off. The company first started testing the feature in November.

The company says users can now save their favorite stickers in private messages and easily access them by simply pressing and holding the sticker they want to save. Once you save a sticker, you can find it at the top the next time you visit Stickers.

By offering a better messaging experience, Instagram may hope to let users send messages to friends and family through its platform rather than through rival messaging services.
