Infinix brings wireless charging technology to CES to charge your devices from eight inches away

It’s been a while since we’ve seen wireless charging demos from the likes of Oppo and Xiaomi, so it came as a surprise when we saw something new from another Chinese mobile brand, Infinix, at CES 2024.this "Air charging" The technology uses low-frequency magnetic resonance to wirelessly deliver up to 25W of power, with an operating distance of up to 20 centimeters (7.87 inches), twice that of Oppo’s previous demonstration, and an angle of up to 60 degrees.

Infinix believes this use case is ideal for users who want to charge their phone while playing games or watching movies, but don’t want a cable to get in the way of either hand. With this improved charging distance, you can also mount the AirCharge pad under your desk and you have an invisible charging area. Before that happens, though, Infinix needs to find a way to avoid accidentally heating nearby metal objects.Existing foreign object detection methods "QR diagram" wireless charging solution, but when the charging space changes from "QR diagram" arrive "3D."

Another safety measure to remember is for situations where the distance between the phone and the charging pad suddenly decreases – it’s not good to suddenly increase the voltage on such a device. The company doesn’t have a timetable for launching AirCharge on production devices yet, but it hopes to eventually use the technology to push the industry standard for wireless charging.

Infinix also showed off its "E-color shift technology," It uses E Ink’s Prism 3 to let you change the color pattern on the back of your phone. This feature supports eight basic colors, then expands with multiple hues, and can be implemented into patterns with more than 100 customizable areas. As is the case with traditional e-ink displays, once you refresh the Prism 3 panel, the new color pattern is retained without draining power.

Once the company figures out how to deal with challenges related to thermal performance and thickness, it hopes to bring the snazzy feature to consumer devices within a year or two. At that point, you’ll be able to customize color modes through the app – we didn’t see this because our demo used a virtual phone. Even Lenovo is considering adorning the lids of its laptops with this display technology.

Last but not least, Infinix teases it "extreme temperature battery" Technology for those who have to brave the freezing cold. While traditional lithium-ion batteries can significantly reduce their capacity or even be damaged at low temperatures, Infinix’s solid-state batteries can continue to operate even at temperatures as low as -40°C or -40°F. Likewise, Infinix’s solution apparently lasts 50% to 300% longer than other solutions when measured at -20°C or -4°F. We could see this battery technology on Infinix phones as early as the second half of 2025.
