“”What meansstamp“Is it flirting, friendly, or annoying? The answer is all of the above, but somehow, none at all. This ambiguous feature has been largely ignored for years, but now Facebook reports The number of pokes increased 13 times last month, it said.

Russian court calls Meta an ‘extremist organization’

Facebook says in capital letters: “THE POKE IS HAVING A MOMENT.” Number of execution threads. “Views on Facebook have jumped 13 times in the past month. So, let’s be honest: Who’s poking who?”

Facebook made some small changes that led to a huge increase in poke numbers, first reported TechCrunch Tuesday. The company has made it easier to find poke pages through search, and Facebook has improved the platform’s suggestions for who to poke. According to reports, more than 50% of poke comes from users aged 18-29. Many of these younger users may be experiencing Poke for the first time, as they may not have been on the platform when Poke first launched.

Facebook sent me this poke video and I didn’t know what to do with it, so here it is.

But the question remains: What exactly is poking? what does that mean? The Poke feature has been around since Facebook was founded in 2004, but it’s never been clear what exactly it is. It never went away, but I personally haven’t heard of anyone poking it in the last five years.

A 2014 Gizmodo article answers a reader’s question Are Pokes creepy or funny?. Answer? It’s both. That’s all. You can interpret it however you want, and that’s part of its charm.

That’s the scary part of it. We’ve all been poked by someone that sent shivers down our spines. Is it that distant relative whom I haven’t seen for a long time?Maybe it was your old high school physics teacher, maybe it was something your ex-girlfriend did no Ended well. No matter who it is, you’re probably interpreting their jab in the worst possible way. That’s the danger of poking – it really depends on the context of your relationship.

The Poke feature comes straight from the genius brain of Mark Zuckerberg. Even the notification noise that first plays when you poke someone is just Zuckerberg himself “poking.”You can listen at Sound Cloud. In many ways, this jab is a sign of just how weird Zuckerberg can be.

“We thought it would be fun to make a feature with no specific purpose,” Zuckerberg said in a statement. Facebook post More than ten years ago. “So just mess around because you’re not going to get an explanation from us.”

This jab encapsulates the many advantages and disadvantages of social media. Pokes, like Facebook, connect people in strange ways they’ve never imagined before. There’s a delightfully random connection to it that’s fun and exciting. However, it’s also very strange and arguably completely unnecessary.

This type of poking was also a precursor to the random dopamine reward systems now common on social media. You never know when you’re going to get poked, so in the back of your brain, you’re always waiting for it. If the mere mention of Poke returning to Facebook makes you feel a little stressed, I’m right there with you.

Poke also became a name The failed social media messaging app Facebook aims to compete with Snapchat. One of the app’s creators posted on Facebook that they made Poke in only 12 days, and the app didn’t last long. However, the legacy of “poke” lives on.

Now, younger users may be experiencing poke for the first time. I’m not sure whether we should be happy or sad for them, but nonetheless, Facebook is working hard to make poking a popular thing again.
