While the “Awesome Games Done Quick” event will continue throughout the rest of the week, the charity speed run may have culminated in the run of Peanut Butter… a Shiba Inu.
Using a custom controller and fueled by commands and treats, Peanut Butter pushed his way into our hearts and entered the speedrunning history books with his string of speeds. birnessite The first ever sprint run by a dog. birnessite is a game in which the player guides a sleepwalking scientist through his laboratory by pressing buttons to raise and lower colorful pillars in the manner of a scientist. To successfully complete a level, players must not get squashed by releasing pillars too early, and avoid monsters called “smicks” that can kill players in one hit.
During the run, Peanut Butter presses the red, yellow, or blue button pads to control posts, rewarding ham, kibble, and cheese. JSR, Peanut Butter’s human and a speed runner himself, said he has been working with Peanut Butter for more than a year, teaching him commands and training him to have the patience and focus needed to complete runs.
During the first half of the race, Peanut Butter maintained a world record pace, although there was some human error, with JSR mistakenly sending Peanut Butter (also known as PB, which in speedrunning lingo means “personal best” ) issued the wrong command.
In the chaotic environment of live speedrunning, runners often have no way of explaining when the game’s randomness (colloquially known as RNG or “random number generator”) and enemy spawns, paths, or attack patterns could cause them trouble. This happens so often at GDQ events that the phrase “never happened before” has become a meme, referring to all the little things that can go wrong with running. Although PB did set a world record pace, his run was thwarted at the last second by his foes waiting for him at the finish line, prompting JSR to utter the old saying: “This has never happened before.” PB Lost WR (the world record) doesn’t matter to his 70,000 viewers on Twitch, who cheer his success regardless.
With four days left in the week-long marathon, there’s still a lot to look forward to.There is one Hades Run again later today. There is a relay race on Friday The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Maskof course, I’m looking forward to it Baldur’s Gate 3 Saturday ran late. Part of the fun of GDQ is marathoning it in the background and looking up at odd times of day to see people in alien sunglasses running an obscure platformer on a Sega 32X. I encourage viewers to check the schedule and look beyond the big name games to see games you’ve never heard of before. This is where the hidden gem lies.
