    Avalanche Studios developers have reached contractual agreement to form a union

    Late last year, more than 100 employees at Avalanche Studios Justification, . The workers signed a collective bargaining agreement with the Swedish trade union Unionen and the Swedish Engineers Association. The agreement will take effect in the second quarter of 2025.

    While the specific details of the agreement are unclear, Avalanche said it will “help standardize frameworks around important areas such as salary, benefits, employee impact and career support.” The company said it is working closely with both unions Collaborate to ensure smooth implementation of these frameworks.

    Avalanche was founded in Sweden but has since become a global entity. With this in mind, the move to unionize only affects workers in Sweden, of which there are approximately 100 people. The company has more than 500 employees worldwide.

    Despite the warning, this is yet another high-profile move to improve workers’ rights in the games industry. Avalanche joins several other companies recently formed under collective labor agreements. Sega of America Employees This measure affects 200 employees. ZeniMax Studios’ 300-plus quality assurance staff and parent company Microsoft didn’t hold back. Another Microsoft company, Activision, has a union with more than 600 members.

    This is all good news for workers, but there’s also a dark cloud hanging over the industry. It’s been there for the past few months. In fact, more than 6,000 people lost their jobs in January alone. Affected employees come from many of the companies mentioned above, such as Sega of America, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax.

    As for Avalanche, it is continuing to work on . The game has been in development since 2021 and looks to be an open-world cooperative adventure set in the 1970s.
