Cloud computing company Akamai Technologies has extended its segmentation solution, Akamai Guardicore Segmentation, to hybrid cloud environments.
Extending Akamai Guardicore Segmentation to the cloud can help reduce the attack surface and help contain attacks against cloud-native workloads. Cybersecurity professionals can seamlessly manage segmentation across public cloud environments with the benefits of faster policy deployment time, single network governance across data centers, and reduced management complexity—all through a single interface . Akamai Guardicore Segmentation will initially be available for Microsoft Azure deployments through the Azure Marketplace, followed by Akamai Connected Cloud later this year.
According to a new survey commissioned by Akamai and conducted by ClearPath Strategies, 33% of IT decision makers (ITDMs) intend to increase their use of distributed cloud services to improve security and reliability. However, nearly half (48%) of ITDM claim that security tools are missing or underdeveloped in the distributed cloud world, underscoring the need for better security tools to protect workloads in the cloud.
While organizations of all sizes are implementing public cloud strategies to innovate and achieve new efficiencies, challenges remain. Leveraging Akamai Guardicore Segmentation in the cloud can help organizations address a lack of visibility into application behavior, the need for multiple policies across cloud vendors, and governance issues between DevOps and SecOps teams.
“Public and multi-cloud environments are critical to most organizations’ business operations, but they lack the native visibility and security controls needed to effectively lock down the cloud,” said Pavel Gurvich, senior vice president and general manager of enterprise security at Akamai. Security, security practitioners must be able to see which applications, workloads and traffic are moving through the environment.
“Applying micro-segmentation policies in the cloud provides security practitioners with comprehensive visibility and control across all cloud environments, from a single interface with a set of controls, without agents. We can protect business-critical applications – no matter where they are On-premises, in the cloud or on legacy servers – while reducing the number of security solutions that need to be managed.”
Benefits of Akamai Guardicore Segmentation in the cloud include:
- Comprehensive agentless cloud-native visibility and enforcement enables administrators to visualize cloud workloads using near-real-time interactive maps of real network flows, understand application dependencies and bring DevOps and SecOps teams together in cloud network security governance.
- A hybrid enforcement engine that leverages multiple enforcement points allows organizations to simply define the intent of network policy and let the Akamai Guardicore Segmentation policy engine take care of the rest, dynamically deciding which agent-based and agentless enforcement points to use throughout the data center.
- Integrated reputation analysis and threat intelligence firewall capabilities are designed to reduce detection time and incident response time when a breach occurs.
- Scalable and secure solutions ensure that data never leaves your cloud environment and that the solution architecture automatically scales within it.
