Following Acer’s update of its flagship model at CES 2024, Acer’s mid-range gaming laptop series launched four new products today. On Tuesday, the company launched two new 14-inch laptops as well as updates to two existing 16-inch models. The Intel-powered Predator Helios Neo 14 and Nitro 16 will join the AMD-powered Nitro 14 and Nitro 16 in global launch later this spring.
As is the case with pre-launch laptop announcements, Acer only revealed the device’s lowest price, rather than a full specs and cost breakdown (which Acer said haven’t been finalized yet), making it impossible to gauge its overall value. You can expect this information to be released in May and June respectively.
The Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 is one of two new models and the first in the high-performance series to be available under 16 inches. (At $1,800 and up, it’s also the priciest of the new batch.) That price gets you up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 185H with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU (with dedicated AI acceleration). The lower-cost model will drop down to an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or Intel Core Ultra 5 125H and an RTX 4060 or 4050 graphics card.
The top model features a 14.5-inch WQXGA (3072×1920) display with a 165Hz refresh rate, 100% sRGB color spectrum coverage, and supports NVIDIA G-Sync. Its cheaper models drop the resolution to 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200, with a 120Hz refresh rate.
This Windows 11 laptop comes with a 76Wh battery and offers up to 32GB of LPDDR5X SDRAM and 1TB of storage space. It weighs 4.19 pounds, has a built-in 1080p webcam, and supports Intel Killer Wireless Wi-Fi 6E. It includes a USB-C/ThunderBolt 4 port and a microSD card reader. For cooling, it uses fifth-generation AeroBlade 3D fans and vortex technology.
The Predator Helios Neo 14 will be available in North America in May, starting at $1,800.
The Nitro 14 is the first 14-inch model in the company’s mid-range Nitro series. It should deliver solid performance with the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor and RTX 4060 graphics card. The cheaper version drops to a Ryzen 5 8645HS processor and an RTX 4050 or 3050 graphics card.
Its largest model gives you a 14.5-inch 2560 x 1500 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 9ms response time, and sRGB 100% color gamut support. The entry-level model drops it to 1080p at 120Hz.
The laptop comes with USB 4 and USB 3.2 Type C ports, a pair of USB-A ports (including one that supports offline charging), HDMI 2.1, and a microSD slot.
The Acer Nitro 14 will arrive in North America in May. Pricing starts at $1,300.
The company’s updated Nitro 16 was launched in different Intel and AMD versions (AN16-73 for Intel and AN16-43 for AMD). The former comes with up to an Intel Core i7-14700HX processor, while the AMD version comes with up to a Ryzen 9 8945HS (same as the top-end Nitro 14). Otherwise, there are only minimal weight differences between the two models (5.37 pounds for AMD versus 5.4 pounds for Intel) and Wi-Fi (Intel-branded Killer Wireless Wi-Fi 6E versus AMD’s humble Wi-Fi 6E).
As for many of the specs shared by the Intel and AMD variants of the Nitro 16, they both come with Nvidia graphics cards up to an RTX 4060 and 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 RAM. Cheaper models can replace it with an RTX 4050 or 3050.
Their screens have a resolution of 2560 x 1600, a brightness of 500 nits, an update rate of 165Hz, and a response time of 3 milliseconds. Each notebook offers up to 32GB of DDR5 SDRAM and 2TB of storage space. They have a 76Wh battery and a measly 720p webcam.
Both versions of the Nitro 16 will be available in North America in May. Pricing starts at $1,400. If you’re considering the new model, you’ll be able to see a more detailed configuration pricing breakdown at or around launch, so stay tuned.
