Purchasing a franchise is a significant financial commitment for consumers. Franchise rules are designed to ensure consumers have critical information to weigh the risks and benefits of their potential investments. As part of its ongoing regulatory review process, the FTC will host a virtual seminar on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, to review the franchising rules. Check out the just released agenda.

Andrew Smith, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, will hold a virtual seminar at 1:00 ET. The next speaker will be Oklahoma Congressman Kevin Hearn.

Reviewing Franchise Rules is divided into three panels, each providing insights from franchisors, franchisees and enforcement officials. The first panel will focus on Financial performance statements: What should be disclosed? Why?

The next agenda will discuss Disclaimers, Waivers and Questionnaires.

The last group of the day will consider Pros and cons of the current FDD (Franchise Disclosure Document) format. Lois Greisman, deputy director of the FTC’s Marketing Practice Division, will deliver closing remarks at 4:30 ET.

Reviews of franchise rules are free and open to the public. Follow the link on the event page to watch the webcast, which will be live a few minutes before the 1:00 ET start time on November 10.

We will open public records so you can submit public comments on regulations.gov on the issues discussed at the workshop until December 17, 2020.
