Google Research and Fitbit are developing a personal health big language model, which means an artificial intelligence-based personal trainer can help you stay healthy.
Google explained in a blog post on Tuesday that the new model will power personalized health and wellness features in the Fitbit mobile app, providing insights and recommendations based on data collected from Fitbit and Pixel devices.
If you recall, Google acquired fitness wearables maker Fitbit back in 2021, and the company now sells Fitbit-branded devices as well as Google’s Pixel Watch 2.
Google provides several examples of new AI model capabilities, such as analyzing changes in your sleep patterns and sleep quality and then making recommendations on how hard you should exercise next.
The model builds on Google’s new Gemini model and is “fine-tuned based on a set of identified, diverse health signals from high-quality research case studies,” Google said. Of course, this is all done in collaboration with coaches and health experts.
Apple and Google are reportedly in talks. Will Gemini come to iPhone?
Google says the model has already achieved good results in some areas. “We are testing performance using practice tests similar to those for the sleep medicine certification exam and have seen that our model currently performs well,” the company wrote, adding that it would share more findings “soon.”
There’s no word yet on when we’ll actually see the new AI features in the Fitbit app.
